Replacing a TRV head or the complete radiator valve?

Check which part has failed before buying. The numbered thermostatic head is different from the valve body attached to the pipe. A damaged head may need only a compatible replacement head; a leaking valve body or pipe connection needs a proper diagnosis and may require a heating engineer.

Three checks that prevent the wrong purchase

1. Head connection: many thermostatic radiator heads use an M30 × 1.5 mm connection, but not all. Some Danfoss RA valves need a different fitting or adapter. Do not assume two similar-looking heads interchange.
2. Valve layout: photograph whether the pipe enters the valve from below, from the wall or in line with the radiator. Angled and straight valve bodies are not automatically interchangeable.
3. Pipe size and exact reference: note the maker, any part number and the connection dimensions. Manufacturers offer variants for different pipe sizes; check the precise product specification rather than guessing from the radiator size.

Safety: never loosen the valve body, unions or pipe connections on a pressurised heating system just to identify a head. If a valve is leaking, isolation, draining or repair may require a competent heating professional. Gas appliance work requires an appropriately registered Gas Safe engineer.
