The short answer: If you can show the existing part, its connections, its measurements and the job it does, we have a much better starting point for finding a suitable replacement. Below is our practical guide for this particular enquiry.
What a thermostatic radiator valve does
A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is designed to regulate radiator flow in response to room temperature through its thermostatic head and compatible valve body. It is not the same as a room thermostat. If a radiator has a numbered control head, it may be fitted with a TRV, but inspect the valve before buying a head or body.
What a lockshield valve does
The lockshield is commonly on the other side of the radiator and is often covered by a plain cap. It is used when balancing radiator flow, and its setting should not be changed casually. A valve that looks plain is not necessarily interchangeable with the thermostatic side.
Check the threads and connection
Replacement TRV heads and valve bodies are not universally compatible. Check the maker, head connection, pipe size, tail fitting and valve orientation. Angle and straight patterns can differ significantly. If only the head is damaged, replacing the whole valve may be unnecessary, but the compatible part must be confirmed.
How to request the right part
Send photographs of the valve in place from several angles, including the head removed only if safe and appropriate. Include radiator make if known, pipe size and any numbers or branding. If the system must be drained or components removed, use a competent heating engineer where needed.
